A living Will, sometimes known as an Advanced Directive is completely different from Writing a Will also known as a standard Will. Whilst Writing a Will is designed to deal with your finances upon your death, a living Will is designed for you to give advance directions to your family, GP and hospital doctors in the event that you suffer a prolonged serious illness at some time in your life, it can also help for future asset management planning.
Although a Living Will is not a legally binding document in the true sense of the word as doctors treating your condition are under a professional obligation to provide the best and most appropriate medical care for you, the British Medical Association has recognised that whilst you have the right to consent or refuse treatment when you are able to do so, your wishes as expressed in such an advance directive should be considered in deciding upon your long-term treatment and care.
